ECB and Bank of England rate decisions

Europe's economies were in the spotlight on Thursday, with both the Bank of England (BoE) and European Central Bank (ECB) announcing rate decisions.

  • A change in language from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi sent the euro lower against the dollar following the central bank's decision to keep its key interest rate and deposit facility unchanged.

    Nor were there any surprises from the Bank of England, which earlier left its interest rates at a record low and its bond-buying target unchanged. It also surprised some by not changing the nuances of its “forward guidance."
